Noted folk singer Farida Parveen died at 10:15pm on Saturday after a long illness. The singer’s body was kept at Shaheed Minar for tributes after 12 noon on Sunday. People from all walks of life paid their respects at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Singer Runa Laila joined the video call to pay tribute to Farida Parveen.
Runa Laila could not go to the Central Shaheed Minar to pay her last respects to Farida Parveen due to being out of the country. So, she joined a video call and spoke to her family members.
Runa Laila said, “I am very sad to hear such news. I could not pay my last respects due to being out of the country. If I were in the country, I would definitely have gone.
I tried to talk to her many times after hearing the news of her illness. For some reason, it was not possible. I always wished her well. I am very saddened to hear the news of her death.”
Runa Laila also said, “Losing an artiste like Farida Parveen is a huge loss for our music industry.
She was a very good person as well. She loved and respected me a lot. We didn’t meet much. But whenever we did, she welcomed me with a smile. She was very happy to go to her son’s wedding. I pray that Allah grants her paradise.
I can’t say enough about Farida. I’m not in the mood to say anything right now. May Allah give her family the strength to overcome this grief. May they bear such a great loss.”
Farida Parveen had been ill for several years. She was suffering from various physical complications including kidney problems and diabetes. She had to be hospitalised three times this year for treatment.
