NN Online Report: Renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer Sadi Mohammad passed away yesterday (13 March) evening.
He died sometime around 7:30pm at his Mohammadpur residence. He was around 70.
The news of his death was confirmed by his brother dancer Shibli Mohammed.
Shibli told Prothom Alo that his elder brother practised music with tanpura even yesterday. Later in the evening, he suddenly saw the door of his brother’s room closed, following which he broke the door and recovered Sadi’s hanging body.
Dr Shagotik Lohan, emergency medical officer of Shaheed Suhrawardi Medical College Hospital said Sadi Mohammad’s body was brought to the hospital around 9:30pm. “We learnt from his relatives that he hanged himself at his residence at around 7:30pm and we have also found hanging marks around his throat,” he added.
After the death of Sadi Mohammad’s mother Zebunnesha Salimullah, 96, on 8 July last year, the singer went through a trauma and was not mentally stable.
According to local media, his namaz-e-janaza will be held in front of his house at Mohammadpur today.
Sadi Mohammad is the son of Liberation War martyr Salim Ullah. The road in Mohammadpur popularly known as Salimullah Road is named after him.
Sadi Mohammad completed his bachelor’s and master’s in Rabindra Sangeet from the Visva-Bharati University. In 2007, Sadi debuted as a music composer when he released the album “Amakey Khujey Pabey Bhorer Shishirey”. He released the albums “Srabon Akashey” in 2009 and “Sharthok Janom Amar” in 2012.
He had nine siblings, including Shameem Mohammad and dancer Shibli Mohammad.
Sadi Mohammad also served as the director of the cultural organisation, Rabi Raag.
