Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has said the wide-ranging reform programmes initiated by the interim government to establish a well-governed and forward-looking Bangladesh are steadily approaching successful completion.

In a message issued on the occasion of Victory Day, he said, “December 16 is our great Victory Day-an unforgettable and glorious milestone in the history of Bangladesh. On this day in 1971, after nine months of a bloody Liberation War, the nation achieved its long-cherished victory.”
He added that the country’s independent national identity and the red-and-green flag were earned through the immense sacrifices and bloodshed of countless martyrs.

“I pay my deepest homage to the valiant martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War and throughout our prolonged struggle for independence. Their supreme sacrifice continues to inspire us to stand against injustice and oppression, guiding us on the path of freedom in every crisis and challenge,” he said.

Professor Yunus observed that the spirit of independence achieved in 1971 has, at different times, been undermined by authoritarian rule and misgovernance.

“Through the July Uprising, we have once again secured an opportunity to establish a democratic system free from discrimination, corruption, and tyranny. The extensive reform initiatives undertaken by the current interim government to build a well-administered and progressive Bangladesh are now moving towards successful completion with the active participation of the people,” he added.

He expressed optimism that the reform efforts would dismantle authoritarian practices, ensure transparency and accountability, and promote people-oriented and sustainable development across all sectors of the state.

“May this Victory Day become a renewed call for national unity. Let us pledge, at any cost, to uphold our commitment to genuine empowerment of the people and the democratic transformation now underway, inspired by the enduring spirit of the great Liberation War,” he said.

The chief adviser urged everyone to work collectively to build a safe, happy, and beautiful Bangladesh for the new generation, fulfilling the promise of independence achieved through immense sacrifice.
“Let us advance together-regardless of religion, ethnicity, or community-along the path of peace and prosperity,” he said.
On the occasion, he extended his heartfelt greetings to all Bangladeshis at home and abroad.
