A fire broke out in a saw mill and a furniture factory in Savar’s Ashulia. The victims claimed that furniture and wood worth more than two crores taka were burnt. The fire took place at S. Rahman Timber and Traders furniture factory and New Nakshi ‘S’ in rural area of Nabinagar-Chandra Highway on Friday.
According to the fire service and the locals, a sudden fire was seen in the furniture factory called S. Rahman Timber and Traders in the Pallividyut area of Ashulia at around 8 am. When the fire service was informed about the matter, three units of the DEPZ fire service reached the spot and started working to control the fire.
The intensity of the fire increased and it spread to a neighboring village. In the incident, three more units of Mordan Fire Service and Civil Defense Station reached the spot and joined the fire fighting. Meanwhile, the fire came under control after about two hours with continuous efforts of six units.
The owner of the furniture factory, Sohrab Hossain, said that the shop was closed during Eid holidays. Although the security of the market was on duty at night, after the security had left around seven in the morning, I got the news of the fire at eight o’clock. On receiving the information, the fire service personnel came and brought the fire under control, but by that time all the furniture and goods of the factory were burnt. I have lost more than 1 crore rupees and I have become destitute.
