At one time, Kushum Shikder was regularly seen on both the big and small screens.
She earned a place in the audience’s hearts through films like Lal Tip, Gohine Shobdo, and Shankhacheel. Yet in recent times, she has been appearing on screen far less frequently.
She has finally clarified her position on the matter. In a recent program on Channel Twenty-Four, the popular film and television actress explained why she has not been seen in new projects.
When the host asked whether she had suddenly disappeared, Kushum replied, “Where have I disappeared? If you’re talking about work, I’m simply not interested in doing dramas right now. I’ve received many film offers. I could have worked if I wanted to.
It would have been possible to say yes and start shooting. But I’m a bit particular, a bit of a perfectionist.
In most of the proposals, I felt there were shortcomings somewhere, or the people making them were not fully prepared. That’s why I didn’t take them.”
Kushum said that after the release of Shoroter Joba, she received offers for at least 12 films.
However, she turned down all of them. Explaining the reason, she said, “I’m a slow-paced person. I work slowly.
I believe that when you take your time, the quality turns out better. One year is too little for a film. It took me two years to make Shoroter Joba.
And if you count the writing, it takes even longer. If I get a story I like and a properly prepared project, I will definitely do it.”
Regarding her appearance and fitness, she said, “I try to keep my mind very fresh.
I avoid lying as much as possible. I try to be a grateful person. I have a strong capacity for being amazed, and I have the power to love. I nurture these qualities.
I believe that if these remain within you, they show on the outside as well. They help keep a person beautiful.”
