BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday said the killing of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi was a part of conspiracy.
He, however urged all to stay vigilant so that the incident is not exploited for political purposes or to create instability.
“We have unequivocally condemned this barbaric act. However, fallen fascist elements or those seeking to obstruct the election process must not be allowed to take advantage of this incident. Everyone must stay alert,” he said.
Salahuddin, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, made the comments while speaking to journalists ahead of attending Hadi’s namaz-e-janaza.
He also urged citizens to remain cautious against any conspiracy aimed at delaying or undermining the forthcoming election.
Later, representing the BNP, Salahuddin-along with Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and numerous party leaders and activists-joined the janaza of martyr Osman Hadi.
The funeral prayer for Hadi was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Saturday afternoon.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, members of the advisory council, leaders and activists from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Inquilab Mancha, the National Citizens Party (NCP), as well as the chiefs of the three armed services, were among those present.
Mirza Fakhrul falls ill Osman Hadi, who was also a potential BNP candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot in the head on December 12 while riding in a rickshaw on Culvert Road in Puratan Paltan.
He was later flown to Singapore for advanced medical care, where he passed away from his injuries on the night of December 18.
