Chinese company to make high-end garments at Bepza Economic Zone: Chinese company SSH (BD) Sustainable Fashion Co Ltd is going to invest $24.05 million to set up a high-end garments industry in Bepza Economic Zone. The company will annually produce 36 million pieces of different types of high-end garment products, including jackets, blazers, coats, suits, pants, trousers, jeans, shirts, shorts, cargo long, underwear, jersey, t-shirt, knit-bottom, baby bumper, swimsuit, sheath dress, hoodie and uniform. Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) signed an agreement with the company to this effect at Bepza Complex in Dhaka on Wednesday. This investment will create employment opportunities for 2,062 Bangladeshi nationals, Bepza said in a press release.

Tajul Islam, presides over the eleventh edition of International Perspective on Water Resources and the Environment (IPWE) conference held at city’s Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on Wednesday. The Environmental & Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE-EWRI) in partnership with the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology’s Institute of Water and Flood Management (BUET-IWFM) jointly organized the four-day conference. Max Group is the sponsor of the international event. Speakers called for widespread use of FlexMat, a cluster of flexible blocks built with plastic and polymer, is used to protection the river bank from erosion and flood and this highly articulated technology can last nearly a century.
