Students protest launching EEE Dept at RU

Students of Rajshahi University (RU) Applied Physics and Electronic Engineering (APEE) Department yesterday (Saturday) protested launching Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) Department under engineering faculty.
The decision of launching EEE Department came in academic council meeting of APEE Department recently.
Protesting the decision, more than 200 students of the Department brought out a protest procession around 10:00am demanding the cancellation of the decision.
Omar Faruk, one of the agitated students said, as the APEE Department is already existed, the newly approved EEE Department cannot run.
“The syllabus of the two departments is too same”, he added.
“Either the authorities have to cancel the decision of launching EEE Department or have to change the name of our Department into EEE”, another agitator said.
They also threatened of tougher agitation if the authorities don’t pay heed to their demands.
Contacted, Prof Abu Bakar Md. Ismael, Dean of Engineering Faculty said, though there is some similarities in the syllabus of the two departments, it will not create any difficulties for the students.
In a reply to the demands of the students, Prof said, it is the matter of the APEE Department whether they will change their name or not.
Prof Shaikh Enayet Ullah, Chairman of the Department could not be reached over mobile phone for his comment despite repeated efforts.
