Vision of $50b export by 2021 emphasised
Bangladesh Apparel & Safety Expo -2015 kicks off in port city

Commerce Minister Tofael Ahmed MP said special RMG zone will be established in the proposed economic zone of Mirsarai and Anowara in Chittagong following the acquisition of lands there. He said a larger EPZ is set to build in Bousia, Munshigonj by next 3 years where atleast 3000 RMG factories will be accommodated.
China will invest 2.3 billion US dollars lonely in the proposed Bousia EPZ with an aim of earning forex of 5 billion dollars annually. He disclosed it while addressing the inaugural session of he 3-day long Bangladesh Apparel & Safey Expo-15 at Mohona Hall of Hotel Radison Blue in port city yesterday morning as Chief Guest.
Mr. Sajjad Karim , Member of European Parliament and chairman of Trade Monitoring group of South Asia also addressed in it as special guest.
US Ambassador in Bangladesh Ms.Marcia Bernicat, EU Ambassador in Bangladesh Mr. Pierre Mayedoun, Chittagong city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin also spoke in it as guests of honour. First Vice President of the BGMEA Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhry delivered the address of welcome in the inaugural session. The chair of the inaugural session and President of BGMEA Atiqul Islam read out a written statement before the prestigious inaugural ceremony.
BGMEA President in his statement said “our RMG industry is not just about the number of employment, nor about $50 billion export or GDP growth. It is all about the livelihoods of the millions of people coming from less privileged parts of the coutry . He said sustaining this industry will gradually help our economy to graduate to an middle income country by 20121 and we can certainly reach our goal to take the RMG industry to its excellence and can say “Made in Bangladesh with Pride” .
The chief guest in his address emphasized the safety of RMG workers about 4 million workers engaged in this sector of which 85% are female. He said there are more than 300 trade unions in this sector and the salaries of the workers increased in phases but unfortunately the CM cost of the products not enhanced by the importers and buyers.
He also mentioned developed countries of the EU and Canada allowing duty and quota free access of Bangladesh RMG products but unfortunately GSP not yet revived by the concerned country. The Minister also emphasized the RMG compliance factory and export of 33 billion dollars this fiscal with a vision of 50 million dollars in 2021.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin thanked the BGMEA authority for arranging such a global standard garments Expo in Chittagong and assured for utmost cooperation to BGMEA as well as Govt for building garments village in Chittagong.
BGMEA first vice President Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury thanked all presents in it concluding the opening ceremony.
Later, Commerce Minister formally inaugurated the BASEXPO Fair at Mezban Hall and went round the different stalls there.
BGMEA sources said two seminars on Branding Bangladesh and training , development skills for strong, sustainable & balanced growth also held at Mohona hall in the evening with Commerce Minister and the Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower as chief guest respectively.
