Tahsif’s female friend placed on a 3-day remand
A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed the female friend of former Air Force official Tahsif Souri on a fresh three-day remand in a murder case filed over his death.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Manzurul Islam passed the order after a hearing, prosecution lawyer Omar Faruk Faruqi confirmed.
The investigation officer, Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Tongi River Police outpost, produced the woman before the court after the end of her four-day remand and sought a fresh seven-day remand.
In the remand application, the investigation officer said the woman had provided several important pieces of information during four days of questioning from November 1. However, she had avoided answering several questions and remained silent during interrogation.
The officer said the information obtained from her was being kept confidential and verified as part of the investigation.
During interrogation, the woman reportedly said she had gone to Nest Bar and Restaurant in Uttara with Souri on the night of October 27. They had also visited a fried chicken shop several times and gone to different places, including a motorcycle garage.
The investigation officer said further questioning was necessary to determine whether the two had arguments at the restaurant or the fried chicken shop and whether there had been tensions in their relationship before Souri’s death.
The officer also sought more time to establish the motive, identify other suspects, recover evidence and compare the statements of the woman and another accused, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, who is also in police custody on remand.
The remand application cited Souri’s mobile phone records, which showed that he had spoken to the woman several times.
The investigation officer also claimed that preliminary findings indicated her involvement in the murder.
Defence lawyers Mohammad Iman Hossain and Abdur Rahman sought cancellation of the remand and bail for the woman, while the prosecution opposed the plea. After hearing both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.
The woman was detained from the Kafrul area around 2am on October 31. A court had placed her on a four-day remand the following day. Dip was separately placed on a three-day remand in the same case.
Souri went missing after leaving home on the evening of October 27 at the invitation of his junior friend Dip. His body was recovered by river police from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River the following afternoon.
Souri’s father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unidentified persons with Uttarkhan Police Station at 1:05am on October 30.
