The trial of former British comedian and actor Russell Brand has officially begun at Southwark Crown Court in London, where he faces charges of rape and sexual assault.

The 51-year-old is accused of offences involving six women between 1999 and 2009.

He faces three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted indecent assault.

A judge had earlier dismissed one charge of indecent assault due to insufficient evidence and amended it to attempted indecent assault.
