DMP records 12,670 arrests in October

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) disposed of 11,753 criminal and traffic cases through its Special Metropolitan Magistrate Courts in October, while 12,670 accused were arrested during the month.

According to DMP Law Officer Mohammad Ataul Haque, the police arrested the accused in connection with 6,714 criminal cases. Of those arrested, 8,235 were sentenced to jail.

The authorities also collected Tk 2,889,650 in fines and auctioned or confiscated assets worth Tk 80,234.

During the month, magistrates and DMP police conducted 41 special joint drives to maintain law and order in the capital.

In addition, 1,297 cases were filed under the Road Transport Act, 2018, over various traffic law violations.

The Special Metropolitan Magistrate Courts disposed of 5,039 traffic cases during October and collected Tk 701,800 in fines.

The DMP said prompt judicial proceedings by the Special Metropolitan Magistrates were helping strengthen public confidence in the judiciary and law enforcement agencies.

The process was also creating a deterrent against criminal activities.
