Reza Dwip placed on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, an acquaintance of former flight lieutenant KM Tahsif Souri, on a four-day remand in a murder case filed over the former Air Force officer’s death.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas passed the order on Saturday following a plea by Inspector Firoz Uddin, investigation officer of the case and a member of the Tongi River Police Outpost.

Dwip was produced before the court around 2:15pm, with the investigating officer seeking a seven-day remand for questioning in the interest of a proper investigation.

According to the remand petition, Dwip took Tahsif out of his residence in Sector 18 of Turag around 6pm on October 27. Tahsif had been missing since then.

On October 28, around 4:30pm, police received information through the national emergency helpline 999 about an unidentified body floating in the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan.

Police recovered the body and identified Tahsif through an iPhone found in the pocket of his trousers during the inquest examination.

The petition further stated that information gathered through technology and confidential sources indicated that Dwip had taken Tahsif to the Mazar Basti area under Tongi West Police Station on the day of the incident.

During preliminary questioning, Dwip said Tahsif was his senior brother, according to the petition.

The investigating officer claimed that the preliminary investigation had found clear evidence of Dwip’s direct involvement in the killing and said his interrogation in remand was necessary for the sake of the investigation.
