NU plans career, health support centre for 40 lakh students

National University (NU) has taken an initiative to establish a Career and Wellbeing Centre (CWC) to support the physical and mental health of its nearly 40 lakh students, develop their skills and expand employment opportunities.

To establish the centre, the university signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bioted at its city office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on Friday.

Acting Director of the NU Public Relations Office Taiyeba Tasnim Siraj confirmed the development in a press release issued on Saturday.

Under the agreement, the centre will use the university’s infrastructure and extensive network of affiliated colleges to provide students with thalassaemia screening, confidential genetic bio-counselling, mental health services and practical, market-oriented training.

The university said information collected through healthcare services and thalassaemia screening would be kept strictly confidential. Students with complex medical conditions would also be advised to consult specialist physicians.
