BARVIDA Car Expo

From Nov 5-7 in city

The Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (BARVIDA) will organise a three-day car expo in Dhaka next week, seeking to reconnect dealers with prospective buyers and draw attention to policy barriers facing the reconditioned vehicle market.

The BARVIDA Car Expo 2026 will be held at the International Convention City Bashundhara from November 5 to 7, bringing popular Japanese models under one roof for prospective buyers to compare prices, features and technology.

The exhibition will feature models such as the Toyota Prado, Prius, Corolla Cross, Harrier, Noah, Voxy, Alphard, Axio, Fielder and Aqua, among others. A key attraction will be a special exhibition marking 50 years of Japanese cars in Bangladesh.

It will trace the evolution of Japanese automotive technology, from carburettor engines and electronic fuel injection to hybrid, electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Reaz Rahman, secretary general of BARVIDA, said the expo would also provide an opportunity to highlight policy constraints affecting the industry, including the restriction on importing vehicles more than five years old.

He argued that vehicle age should not be the primary criterion for imports, suggesting that emission standards, safety features and roadworthiness should receive greater consideration.

Many vehicles aged seven to 10 years can offer better features and condition than some newer models, he said, adding that relaxing the age restriction could make cars more affordable for middle-income families while generating revenue for the government.
