AIUB seeks stronger academic coop with Australia
American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) has joined a delegation from Bangladesh’s higher education sector in Australia to strengthen bilateral educational cooperation and explore institutional partnerships.
Ishtiaque Abedin, founder member and vice-chairman of AIUB’s Board of Trustees and secretary general of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh, took part in the delegation, according to a press release.
The visit aimed to promote academic collaboration, transnational education, research partnerships, skills development and institutional engagement between Bangladesh and Australia.
As part of the programme, Ishtiaque met representatives of the Australian Department of Education at the Sydney office of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), where the delegation was hosted.
He also held discussions with representatives of the Australia Bangladesh Business Forum to explore opportunities for greater engagement between the two countries in higher education and related sectors.
During the visit, he met Austrade representatives Elodie Journet, Vik Singh, Mostafizur Rahman and Sandi Seneviratne.
The discussions focused on strengthening educational ties, facilitating institutional partnerships and identifying areas of mutual interest between Bangladesh and Australia.
The visit coincided with the Australian International Education Conference 2026, held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney from October 27 to 30.
The conference brought together representatives from across the international education sector to discuss emerging opportunities, international partnerships and the future of international education.
Saadi Islam, public relations officer at AIUB, also participated in the programme.
Through these engagements, AIUB sought to identify practical and sustainable opportunities for collaboration among universities, strengthen educational ties between Bangladesh and Australia, and support the internationalisation and global competitiveness of Bangladesh’s higher education sector.
