BD win gold by defeating Kazakhstan

Bangladesh have won the gold medal in the women’s compound team event at the Asia Cup Archery in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq on Wednesday. In the final, the Bangladeshi team defeated Kazakhstan with a score of 230-220.

The trio of Bonna Akter, Sreeporna Biswas, and Kulsum Akter Moni delivered a masterclass in consistency and precision to claim the top step on the podium. They controlled the gold-medal match across all four ends, shooting scores of 57, 57, 58, and 58 to finish with an impressive 230.

In response, Kazakhstan struggled to keep pace, managing scores of 55, 52, 56, and 57 for a total of 220, ultimately handing Bangladesh a convincing 10-point victory.

While the women’s compound team won gold, the men’s team fell short. Himu Bachar, Tarikul Islam, and Rakib Newaz were defeated by Kazakhstan with a score of 230-224. Bangladesh trailed 54-59 in the second set, while the third set ended in a 57-57 tie. Although Bangladesh won the final set 60-59, the deficit from the second set ultimately cost them the gold medal.

Kulsum Akter Moni has won the bronze medal in the women’s individual compound event, defeating Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan by a score of 116-110. Bonya Akter has reached the final in the same event and will face Kazakh archer Milana today. On the same day, the Bangladesh men’s and women’s recurve teams will also compete for a spot in the final.
