Jelly-mixed shrimp seized

The upazila administration and fisheries department seized 10 kilograms of shrimp mixed with jelly during a raid at Ishwardi municipal market in Pabna on Thursday. A retail fish trader was fined Tk 2,000 in connection with the incident.

The raid was conducted at the municipal market on Thursday as part of the ongoing hilsa conservation drive. Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Shammi Shirin was present during the operation.

Although no hilsa was found during the operation, shrimp mixed with jelly was discovered being kept for sale.

The raid was led by Ishwardi Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asaduzzaman Sarkar. The retail trader was fined Tk 2,000 for selling shrimp mixed with jelly under the Fish and Fish Products (Inspection and Quality Control) Act, 2020.

The 10 kilograms of seized shrimp were subsequently buried in the ground and destroyed.
