World Sight Day 2026 observed in Moulvibazar
A rally and discussion meeting were held in Moulvibazar on Thursday to mark World Sight Day 2026, with a call for greater awareness about eye care and prevention of avoidable blindness.
The programme was organised by the Moulvibazar Civil Surgeon’s Office with support from BRAC’s Health Programme under the district’s integrated eye-care programme.
A colourful rally, featuring doctors, nurses, NGO representatives, members of different professional organisations and people from various walks of life, started from the Civil Surgeon’s Office premises and paraded through different streets of the town.
The rally was organised under the theme “Don’t Let Anyone Live in Darkness, Take Care of Your Eyes.”
Following the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the EPI building at the Civil Surgeon’s Office.
Acting Civil Surgeon of Moulvibazar Dr Zakir Hossain presided over the meeting, while Senior Health Education Officer Suman Debnath moderated it. Superintendent (Deputy Director) of Moulvibazar 250-Bed Hospital Dr Pronoy Kanti Das attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Speakers stressed the importance of regular eye care, early detection of eye diseases and greater public awareness to prevent avoidable vision loss.
Junior Health Officer of the Civil Surgeon’s Office Rajlakshmi Sinha, Nursing Instructor Medical Baro, Medical Officers Dr Muhammad Mahbubul Alam Bhuiyan and Dr Nusrat Hossain, BRAC Health Programme Programme Organiser Sinchita Rani Nath, Area Manager Masud Alam, journalist Nazrul Islam Muhib and representatives from different professions attended the programme.
