289 tonnes of rice allocated for Durga Puja in Rajshahi
The government has allocated 289 tonnes of rice for 489 Durga Puja mandaps in Rajshahi district this year.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Abdul Hai Sarkar said 600 kg of rice has been allocated for each mandap, including 85 in Rajshahi city and 404 in nine upazilas.
The allocated rice has already reached the district and will be distributed among the mandap authorities through the concerned Upazila Nirbahi Officers within a week, reports BSS.
According to the District Relief Office, the number of mandaps has increased by 17 from last year’s 472.
The highest 86 mandaps are in Bagmara, followed by 59 in Tanore, 55 in Puthia, 48 in Bagha, 42 each in Godagari and Charghat, 25 in Mohanpur, 24 in Durgapur and 23 in Paba. Meanwhile, idol makers are busy giving finishing touches to Durga idols ahead of the five-day festival, which will begin with Shasthi Puja on October 16 and end with idol immersion on October 21.
