Sharmin, Nahida improve in ICC rankings

Bangladesh’s Sharmin Akhter and Nahida Akter improved their positions in the latest ICC Women’s T20I rankings released on Tuesday.

Sharmin climbed 10 places to 35th in the batting rankings after scoring 46 off 45 balls against Pakistan in the bronze-medal match at the Asian Games. Bangladesh, however, lost the match by 31 runs.

Nigar Sultana Joty remained 20th as Bangladesh’s highest-ranked batter, while Sobhana Mostary dropped three places to 42nd following a poor outing.

Left-arm spinner Nahida moved up two places to 29th, while pacer Marufa Akter slipped four places to 21st. Leg-spinner Rabeya Khan remained 19th and continued to be Bangladesh’s highest-ranked bowler.

Indian left-arm spinner Sree Charani, meanwhile, set a new record for the highest rating points in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings.

Charani’s tally is 11 points higher than the previous record of 806, held by Australia’s Megan Schutt since November 2018.

Her figures of 2-13 in India’s gold-medal victory over Sri Lanka in the Asian Games final helped her retain the top position and set the new landmark.

India batter Smriti Mandhana returned to the top five, while Australia’s Beth Mooney remained at the top of the batting rankings.
