Three killed in Lalmonirhat road accident

Three people were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 8:30am in the Ghunti area of Burimari Union on the Burimari-Lalmonirhat highway, said Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station, reports UNB.

Citing locals, police said the auto-rickshaw was travelling from Burimari Land Port towards Patgram when the truck, coming from the opposite direction, reportedly suffered a mechanical failure and collided head on with it.

The truck then crashed into a roadside shop and hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving two people dead on the spot and eight others injured.

Members of the Patgram Fire Service and local residents rescued the injured and took them to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, where another victim died during treatment.

Five of the critically injured were later referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
