Meta wants  to open Dhaka office

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has expressed interest in opening an office in Dhaka and expanding cooperation with Bangladesh in e-commerce and online business, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed said.

 

She made the disclosure at a press conference at the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York on Tuesday, following a meeting with representatives of the US technology company.

 

Shama described the meeting as “very

productive” and said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had been scheduled to attend but could not join because of time constraints. She said the two sides discussed the possibility of Meta establishing an office in Dhaka, with the company showing strong interest in creating a focal point in the capital.

 

The discussions also covered Bangladesh’s Cyber Security Act and possible cooperation in expanding e-commerce and other online businesses, she said.

 

The briefing was held to update journalists on the first day of the prime minister’s New York visit, including his participation in events surrounding the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
