Textile mill fined Tk 1 lakh for air pollution in N’ganj

A textile factory in Araihazar, Narayanganj, has been fined Tk 100,000 for causing air pollution, the Department of Environment said.

The fine was imposed on Chalauddin Ahmed Textile (Pvt.) Ltd. during a drive conducted on Monday (September 21) in Kathaliapara area of the upazila.

The operation was led by Araihazar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Mostafizur Rahman Imon, with officers from Araihazar Police Station and the Narayanganj district office of the Department of Environment also taking part. Environment Department inspector Titu Barua filed the prosecution.

According to the Department of Environment, the factory, located in Kathaliapara under Duptara union, was fined under Section 15(2) of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995, for violating Rule 8(a) of the Air Pollution (Control) Rules, 2022.

The fine has since been collected.
The department said such drives against polluting factories and projects in Narayanganj will continue.
