FF’s suicide creates sensation

 The tragic suicide of a Chittagong-based valiant freedom fighter (FF) recently at a residential hotel in Dhaka has created a sensation among local people.
Ayub Khan, former Convenor of the Satkania Unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad (BMS) in Chittagong killed himself at a residential hotel on Topkhana Road in the capital on July 7 after being insulted allegedly by Secretary of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry. A handwritten suicide note was found beside his body that held Liberation War Affairs Ministry Secretary MA Hannan responsible for the death.
Ayub’s body had been taken to his village home at Morfala under Satkania upazila of Chittagong and buried there.
Police said that their enquiry would focus on the suicide note although a case of unnatural death (UD) was filed with Shahbag police station.
Citing the suicide note, police said Ayub had given the Secretary fish, dried fish and money to get him declared as Commander of South Chittagong unit of BMS. But when asked, the Secretary said the BMS unit as mentioned in the suicide note was not under his jurisdiction. Then why a man would accuse him before death without any reason, Secretary Hannan said, “That’s my question too. I never tried dried fish, can’t even tolerate the scent.”
In the wake of widespread allegation, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs (MoLWA) formed a probe body headed by a Joint Secretary to probe the incident and submit report within three days.
At the same time, the probe committee was asked to collect detailed information about the suicide and other evidences, including the suicide note.
