2,700 Ishwardi farmers get free seeds, fertiliser
A total of 2,700 farmers in Ishwardi, Pabna, have received seasonal crop seeds and fertilizer free of cost under a government initiative aimed at boosting agricultural production and supporting marginal farmers.
The distribution programme was inaugurated on Sunday (August 23) at the Upazila Agriculture Office premises. The Department of Agricultural Extension organised the programme.
Professor Abu Taleb Mondal, MP for Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atgharia), attended the programme as the chief guest and handed over fertilizer and seeds to the farmers.
The programme was chaired by Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md Abdul Momin. Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers, local dignitaries and beneficiary farmers were present.
In his speech, Professor Abu Taleb Mondal said free fertilizer and seeds were being distributed under the government’s farmer-friendly policies to support marginal and small-scale farmers.
The initiative would help reduce production costs and encourage seasonal crop cultivation.
He said farmers are a key driving force of the country’s economy and called for continued government support to develop the agricultural sector and make farmers self-reliant. He also stressed the effective implementation of incentive and agricultural assistance programmes to ensure higher production at lower costs.
Also present were Ishwardi Municipal Jamaat Amir Maulana Golam Azam Khan, Upazila Legal Affairs Secretary Hafizur Rahman Khan, Jamaat Publicity and Media Secretary Masud Rana Masum, Agriculture Office officials and beneficiary farmers.
