Rizvi new BNP’s acting secy general
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been appointed acting secretary general of the party with immediate effect.
The BNP announced the appointment in a press release issued on Thursday.
According to the statement, Rizvi was appointed under Section 7(b)(6) of the BNP constitution.
The press release was signed by the party’s Assistant Office Secretary Muhammad Munir Hossain.
The appointment follows the election of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as president.
Fakhrul resigned from his position as BNP secretary general on August 13 after becoming the party’s candidate for the presidential election.
Two days later, on August 15, Rizvi, who had been serving as the party’s senior joint secretary general, was elevated to the BNP Standing Committee, the party’s highest policymaking body.
With his latest appointment, Rizvi will now serve as acting secretary general and oversee key organisational responsibilities of the party.
Rizvi also serves as a political adviser and adviser to the Ministry of Industries with the status of a minister.
