Pakshi railway police seize drugs

Pakshi Railway District Police have seized illegal drugs worth Tk 37,447,800 in various drives over the past year and arrested 89 people in connection with the seizures.

Police Super Mehedi Hasan disclosed the information at a meeting with journalists held in the conference room of the Pakshi District Police Control Room in Ishwardi, Pabna, at noon on Saturday. Officials from different levels of the railway district police were present at the meeting.

According to police, the seized drugs included 41 kilograms of cannabis, 4 kilograms and 600 grams of heroin, 528 yaba tablets, 1,126 ampoules of narcotic injections, 402 Tapentadol tablets, 640 bottles of codeine-based Eskaf syrup, 150 bottles of Phensidyl, 13 bottles of locally produced liquor, 30 bottles of codeine phosphate and 30 bottles of codeine-based MK Drill.

Police Super Mehedi Hasan said the drugs were recovered during raids conducted from July 20, 2025, to July 31, 2026, at various railway station areas under the Pakshi Railway District, as well as on intercity, mail and local trains.

The estimated market value of the seized drugs is Tk 37,447,800.
He said 89 people were arrested on charges of possessing, transporting and dealing in the seized drugs. A total of 73 cases and 12 general diaries (GDs) were filed in connection with the incidents.

The police superintendent further said Phensidyl is mainly transported by rail from the Jashore area, while heroin mostly comes from Dinajpur. Railway police are conducting regular operations to prevent the transportation and supply of these drugs.

Mehedi Hasan said, “Our anti-drug operations have been further strengthened compared to the past. Despite manpower shortages, members and officers of the railway police are working sincerely to eliminate drugs from railway areas. Our operations will continue.”

Responding to questions from journalists, the police superintendent said there is little scope for concealing information in the current digital era. He said they want to make railway police activities more effective through information sharing and sought the overall cooperation of journalists in this regard.

Sub-Inspector Mahatab Ali, Ruhul Amin and other officials of Pakshi Railway District Police were present at the meeting.
