Midland Bank supports BD team

Md Zahid Hossain , Deputy Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer of Midland Bank PLC, handing over a pay order for Tk5 lakh to Shams Jaber , CEO of The Tech Academy, as a silver sponsor for Team Bangladesh's participation in the FIRST Global Challenge 2026. The handover ceremony took place in Dhaka recently.

Midland Bank PLC has provided Tk5 lakh to The Tech Academy as a silver sponsor of Team Bangladesh for its participation in the FIRST Global Challenge 2026.

The sponsorship was extended under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme in the Education Sector, according to a press release.

Midland Bank Deputy Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer Md Zahid Hossain handed over the pay order to The Tech Academy Chief Executive Officer Shams Jaber at a ceremony recently.

The FIRST Global Challenge 2026, an international robotics competition, is scheduled to be held in Incheon, Republic of Korea, from 7 to 10 October.

Team Bangladesh has represented the country in the competition since 2017 and became world champion in 2020.

The Tech Academy, Bangladesh’s first robotics school for children, works to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, robotics, innovation and technology among young learners.

It conducts robotics training, educational programmes and nationwide outreach initiatives to develop children’s interest and skills in these areas.

Midland Bank extended the sponsorship as part of its commitment to supporting education, youth development, innovation and technology through its CSR initiatives.

The bank said its support for Team Bangladesh would encourage young people to pursue STEM education and innovation while strengthening the country’s representation on the global robotics platform.

Midland Bank Senior Vice President and Head of Credit Risk Management Division Md Bajlur Rahman Khan; Senior Vice President and Head of Financial Administration Division Didarul Islam; Vice President and Head of Cards Abed-Ur-Rahman; and Senior Assistant Vice President and Head of Treasury and Market Risk Sushanta Sekhar Deb attended the ceremony.

The Tech Academy Senior Manager and Head of Human Resources Sifat Samia Islam; Executive and 3D Expert Fayez Alom Remon; and Executive of Branding and Marketing Sahida Alamgir Lamia were also present.

Through the initiative, Midland Bank reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education, innovation and technological development and empowering the next generation of young innovators in Bangladesh.
