‘Tablet Shahidul’ held with yaba
Police have arrested a man involved in drug trafficking with 105 yaba tablets and Tk 10,000 in suspected drug proceeds in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram.
The arrestee is Md Shahidul Islam, 40, alias ‘Tablet Shahidul’, son of Md Mofiz Uddin of Sonatoli area in Baghbandar Union. Bhurungamari Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Muntasir Mamun Moon confirmed the arrest on Thursday.
Police said a team led by ASP Muntasir Mamun Moon, comprising Sub-Inspector Md Al-Amin and Assistant Sub-Inspector Abu Said, conducted an undercover operation in Sonatoli between 12:30am and 1am on Wednesday.
The team arrested Shahidul during the operation and recovered 105 yaba tablets and Tk 10,000 in suspected drug proceeds from his possession, police said.
According ASP Muntasir Mamun Moon, Shahidul has allegedly been involved in selling yaba, Phensedyl and marijuana for a long time. He is also accused of supplying drugs to different upazilas in Dinajpur and Rangpur and of getting teenagers in Bhurungamari Sadar Union addicted to drugs.
ASP Muntasir Mamun Moon said Shahidul had previously evaded arrest despite several raids conducted by law enforcement agencies and the Department of Narcotics Control.
ASP said police managed to arrest Shahidul with drugs on their fourth attempt.”We have received information that he has direct links with Indian drug traffickers,” the ASP said.
