Tigers start practice in Darwin
The Bangladesh Cricket team have started practicing in Darwin, the venue for the first Test ahead of the two-match Test series against Australia Cricket team.
Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam is happy with the first day of practice at the Darwin venue ahead of the first Test.
The Bangladesh Cricket team are touring Australia after a long 23 years to play a Test match.
The Tigers last played a Test on Australian soil in 2003. They tasted defeat in the two-match Test series.
Bangladesh played the first Test of that tour in Darwin. They lost by an innings and 132 runs.
Darwin made its debut as a venue in 2003 with the Test between Bangladesh and Australia. After that, only one more Test was held at the venue.
In 2004, the Aussies faced Sri Lanka. Australia won by 149 runs. After that match, no more Test matches were held at the Darwin venue.
In a video message sent by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), veteran spinner Taijul Islam said that the members of entire team are happy with the first day’s practice as the facilities in Darwin are good.
He said, “The kind of facilities we are getting here have made us prepare well. Alhamdulillah, the first day’s practice went well. All the facilities here are very good.
From wickets, fielding practice to running, we were able to do all kinds of activities here.”
The Bangladesh Cricket team also got a transit on the long journey to Australia. Taijul Islam said that there is no fatigue in the team because they got rest during that transit.
He said, “The journey from Bangladesh was good. Because we got a transit on the way. We got enough rest during the transit.”
The Bangladesh team will practice until August 5. Bangladesh Cricket team will play a three-day warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI from August 6 to August 8 at DXC Arena in Darwin.
After that, Shanto and Co. will practice continuously from August 9 to 12. The first Test between Bangladesh and Australia will be held at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin from August 13 to August 17.
The second and final Test between Bangladesh and Australia will be played at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay from August 22 to 26.
