PUNAK installs deep tube well in Khulna

Bangladesh Police Women’s Welfare Association (PUNAK) installed a deep tube well and carried out a tree plantation programme at the Pabla Sabuj Sangha ground under Daulatpur Police Station in Khulna city on Friday to improve access to safe drinking water and promote environmental conservation.

The tube well was inaugurated by PUNAK President Prof Nasima Ferdousi at a programme attended by local residents, community leaders, senior PUNAK officials and members of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).

The event began with a prayer, after which Prof Ferdousi inaugurated the facility and planted a Christmas tree sapling on the premises.

Addressing the gathering, she said PUNAK has been working for more than three decades to improve the welfare of police families, empower women and support underprivileged communities through a range of social initiatives, including vocational training, free eye camps, cataract surgeries, thalassaemia screening, winter clothing distribution and sanitation projects.

She said ensuring access to safe drinking water is one of the organisation’s key humanitarian priorities, particularly in the country’s southwestern region, where salinity has made fresh water increasingly scarce.

“Being familiar with the realities of this region, we understand the hardships people face in collecting safe drinking water. This deep tube well has been installed to help ease that suffering and ensure access to clean water for local residents,” she said.
