Masterplanning around Purbachal Stadium ahead of 2031 World Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wants to bring new momentum to the Purbachal International Cricket Stadium project ahead of the 2031 International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI World Cup to be held in Bangladesh.

In addition to preparing the stadium as one of the venues for the World Cup, the BCB has taken up new plans to ensure modern facilities there.

At the same time, an initiative has been taken to change the previous design and build a modern infrastructure in line with the long-term plan.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal said the government’s cooperation will be required to implement such a big project. After the Board Meeting of BCB he said, “The stadium will probably require government funding.

The ODI World Cup is the biggest tournament in cricket and a matter of great pride for Bangladesh. I am sure the government will definitely consider the matter. When the bid for the World Cup was made, Purbachal was also part of that plan.”

The BCB officials want to quickly start work on not only the stadium construction, but also on building a modern Cricket Excellence Center in Purbachal.

Tamim said the BCB has already approved the project. However, it has been decided to formulate a new design as the design prepared a few years ago does not fully match the current plan.

The BCB hopes that once the stadium and Excellence Center are completed, the country’s cricket infrastructure will reach new heights and preparations for hosting the 2031 World Cup will also be stronger.
