BADC sets focus on seeds, sustainability, agricultural progress
Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) must maintain its long-standing reputation in the agriculture sector by ensuring efficient and transparent implementation of development projects, Chairman Md Azizul Islam said on Wednesday.
Addressing an Annual Development Programme (ADP) review meeting at the BADC headquarters, he said the organisation’s contribution to agriculture and farmers’ development has earned strong government confidence, which must be preserved through better performance.
BADC Chairman Md Azizul Islam has called on officials to strengthen project implementation and uphold the organisation’s historic role in advancing Bangladesh’s agricultural sector.
He made the remarks at an ADP meeting held at the BADC conference room on 29 July 2026 to review the financial and physical progress of projects being implemented by the organisation.
Various project directors, department heads and wing chiefs attended the meeting chaired by the BADC chairman.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the progress of activities implemented during the 2025-26 fiscal year. The discussion highlighted that BADC achieved the top position among agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture in terms of ADP implementation during the year.
Referring to the organisation’s importance, Azizul Islam said BADC is closely connected with the country’s agriculture sector.
“Whenever a meeting is held on agriculture-related issues, the name of BADC automatically comes into discussion,” he said, adding that this reflects the government’s confidence and trust in the organisation’s role in improving agriculture and supporting farmers.
He said BADC must preserve this trust and its glorious tradition by carrying out responsibilities more efficiently.
The chairman also said the government has extensive plans to expand BADC’s activities to bring greater dynamism to smart and modern agricultural management.
He instructed officials to work with greater responsibility in implementing priority government programmes in the agriculture sector.
Among the key initiatives, he highlighted summer onion seed production, reducing dependence on imports by producing jute seeds domestically according to farmers’ demand, and implementing a large-scale tree plantation plan.
He directed officials concerned to prepare and follow specific action plans to ensure successful implementation of these programmes.
BADC plays a significant role in Bangladesh’s agriculture sector, particularly in areas such as seed production, irrigation support and agricultural development initiatives.
The ADP review meeting focused on improving project performance and ensuring that ongoing programmes contribute effectively to the government’s agricultural priorities.
