Agrabad Jamboree Park to reopen soon: CCC Mayor

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has said the newly reconstructed and modernised Agrabad Jamboree Park playground will be officially inaugurated and opened to the public soon.

He made the remarks while inspecting the progress of the development work at the playground on Wednesday.

The mayor said the playground had remained largely unusable for children and teenagers for many years due to poor management and other issues.

To meet the long-standing demand of city residents, the CCC undertook a project to reconstruct and modernize the facility, which is now in its final stages.

“At one time, children and teenagers could hardly play on this field as it was practically closed.
Since the playground falls under the jurisdiction of the CCC, we have taken the initiative to restore and reopen it for the people of the city,” he said.

Dr. Shahadat added that the renovated playground would provide children, teenagers, youth, and people of all ages with a safe space for sports and physical exercise.

He also said a management committee would be formed to oversee the proper maintenance, cleanliness, security, and overall management of the playground.

“We have developed a modern and attractive playground. The inauguration date will be announced soon, and the facility will be opened to the public through a colourful programme with the participation of city residents,” he said.

The mayor noted that the CCC is working continuously to ensure safe and quality playgrounds in every ward of the city.
“Since assuming office, I have visited every ward over the past 20 months. As part of that commitment, 11 playgrounds have already been developed and made ready for public use. I had promised city residents that playgrounds would be developed in all 41 wards in phases. Development work on around 30 more playgrounds is still underway and will be completed gradually,” he added.
Among those present during the inspection were CCC Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary Md. Ashraful Amin, officials of the CCC Engineering Department, Metropolitan BNP member Mohammad Kamrul Islam, and local ward leaders.
