Jobs with fake certificates at BRUR

10 officials and employees have been working at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) using fake certificates for more than a decade. Multiple sources from the university’s registrar’s office have confirmed this information.

In addition, a document sent to the vice-chancellor on January 29 of this year, signed by the university’s registrar, highlights the results of the verification of the certificates of the 10 accused officials and employees.

The document states that the authenticity of the certificates submitted by them was not found in the verification reports of the relevant educational institutions.

Considering the salaries, allowances and other benefits of university officials and employees, the average monthly expenditure of one is about 40 thousand taka.

Accordingly, it is known from the calculations of the relevant sources that about 48 lakh taka per year and about 57.6 crore taka in 12 years have been spent on the government money for the 10 people. However, no official account of the university has been published in this regard.

The Registrar’s document dated January 29 shows that the certificate fraud includes Assistant Director of the Physical Education Department Sohel Rana, Assistant Store Officer of the Central Store Rehman Sarkar, Assistant Registrar (Grade-2) of the Geography and Environmental Sciences Department Md. Emdadul Haque, Assistant Registrar (Grade-2) of the Bengali Department Md. Moniruzzaman.

Deputy Registrar of the Student and Cash Branch Md. Mahbubar Rahman, Assistant Registrar of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department Md. Shahid Al Mamun, Section Officer of Bijoy-24 Hall Atiquzzaman Sumon, Senior Seminar Assistant of the Business Studies Faculty Abu Taher Mondal, and Catalogers of the Central Library and Information Center Md. Mahafuzar Rahman and Md. Alamgir Hossain.

Some of them joined the job using fake certificates of undergraduate, some of postgraduate and some of both levels.

According to the documents, Assistant Director Sohel Rana submitted documents stating that he had completed his graduation and post-graduation from the Royal University of Dhaka.

Later, when the university authorities sent a letter to the Royal University of Dhaka to verify the authenticity of his certificate, the university said that they had not issued any such certificate.
