32 DCs sent into forced retirement

The government has sent another 32 officials who served as Deputy Commissioners (DC) during the 2018 parliamentary election into forced retirement.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued 32 separate orders on Monday retiring them, stating they were being retired after completing 25 years of government service.

This is one of the major administrative decisions since the BNP government came to power. These officials are accused of having been involved in various irregularities to help keep Sheikh Hasina’s government in power during elections.

Holding the rank of joint secretary, these officials had been kept in special “officer on special duty” (OSD) status for a long period before being forcibly retired on Monday.

Among these officials are: Majedur Rahman Khan, Abul Fazal Mir, Aslam Hossain, Moinul Islam, Mohammad Daudul Islam, Md. Shahriar, Kazi Abu Taher, A.Z.M. Nurul Haque, Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Ilias Hossain, Anjan Chandra Paul, A.K.M. Mamunur Rashid, Kamal Hossain, Mohammad Abdul Ahad, Md. Jashim Uddin, Saroj Kumar Nath, Shahidul Islam, Md. Wahiduzzaman, S.M. Ojiur Rahman, Mohammad Masud Alam Siddique, Motiul Islam Chowdhury, Nazia Shireen, Sultana Parveen, Anarkali Mahbub, Mohammad Helal Hossain, Syeda Farhana Kainain, Sarwar Murshed Chowdhury, Mahmudul Kabir Murad, Ali Akbar, S.M. Abdul Kader, S.M. Ferdous, and Gopal Chandra Das.
They will receive retirement benefits as per rules. The orders, issued in the public interest, state they take immediate effect.

Earlier, on February 20, 2025, the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus had forcibly retired 22 former DCs who had served as returning officers in three national elections held under the Awami League – among them three secretaries, 17 additional secretaries, and one each at the joint secretary and deputy secretary levels.
