Madhumita Sarcar set to make her Dhallywood debut

West Bengal actress Madhumita Sarcar is set to make her Dhallywood debut with Mohammad Iqbal’s upcoming film ‘Gulshaner Chameli,’ joining a growing list of Tollywood actors who have entered the Bangladeshi film industry in recent years.

Madhumita will now take on her first Bangladeshi feature film. Both the actor and the film’s director have confirmed the news.

Madhumita rose to fame through the popular Bengali television serial ‘Bojhena Se Bojhena,’ in which she played the character ‘Pakhi’, a role that also earned her recognition among Bangladeshi audiences.

She previously appeared in the Bangladeshi television drama ‘Meghbalika’ (2016), directed by Parvez Amin, alongside Mosharraf Karim. The drama was filmed in Kolkata.

According to director Mohammad Iqbal, ‘Gulshaner Chameli’ explores themes of politics, abuse of power and the hidden realities of elite society.

The story revolves around a sex worker who repeatedly becomes a victim of power despite committing no crime.

Iqbal confirmed that Madhumita has officially signed on for the project. He said pre-production is currently underway, with filming scheduled to begin later this year.

Speaking to the media, Madhumita said she was excited to work on her first Bangladeshi film.

Iqbal had previously revealed that the film will not feature a conventional male lead, with the narrative centring entirely on a female protagonist.

However, he declined to disclose the rest of the cast, saying the names will be announced officially at the film’s muhurat ceremony on August 1.

Madhumita said, “I really liked the story, and I loved the character. It has many layers, and I’m very excited to play the role.”
