Hridoy shines with willow for Jaffna Kings in LPL
Tawhid Hridoy shone with the willow for Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) against Kandy Royals at Dambulla in Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Tawhid Hridoy remained unbeaten with 35 runs. He hit two fours and a sixer in his 21-ball innings. Jaffna Kings won by 93 runs.
Jaffna Kings piled up 199 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Kandy Royals were bundled out for 106 in 18.2 overs.
He joined Jaffna Kings midway through the tournament.
Hridoy has been included in the team as a replacement for Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed.
Taskin did not want to take the risk of playing in the LPL as Bangladesh was on a tour of Australia ahead. Tawhid Hridoy, right-handed batter got the opportunity instead of Taskin Ahmed.
Earlier, another Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud also returned home after leaving the LPL for the same reason, and his team Colombo Strikers added Ripon Mondal as a replacement.
This is not Hridoy’s first experience for Jaffna Kings. He scored 155 runs in 6 matches for the team in the 2023 season. He also had a half-century with his bat in that season. After that, he played the LPL for Dambulla Thunders in 2024.
The start of the Jaffna Kings in the current season was not as expected. Jaffna Kings took the third position in the points table bagging six points playing five matches.
Before yesterday’s match, Tawhid Hridoy played 168 T20 matches. He scored 4057 runs. His highest score is 109 runs. His strike rate was 128.58 with an average of 30.73. He hit two centuries and 23 half-centuries.
