Students hold press against anomalies
General students held a press conference alleging various irregularities, corruption and administrative mismanagement at the traditional Rangpur Carmichael College.
They raised 25-point demands against the college administration and gave an ultimatum to implement the demands within the next seven days. Otherwise, they have been warned to announce a strict agitation programme.
English department student Muhafiz Mustafa and an Arabic department student Mahmudul Haque, along with other students, read out written statements at a press conference organised under the banner of general students at the main gate of the college on Thursday.
In their written statements, the students complained that although various types of administrative irregularities, mismanagement and corruption have been occurring in the college for a long time, they are not being effectively resolved.
As a result, the normal environment of education is being disrupted and students are suffering from various problems. At the press conference, the students raised 25-point demands on various issues including the college’s educational activities, administrative transparency, infrastructural development, and ensuring student services.
They also demanded exemplary punishment by identifying and investigating those involved in irregularities and corruption in the college.
The students said that these demands have been raised with the aim of improving the overall environment of the college and forming a student-friendly administration.
They expressed hope that the college administration will quickly consider the issues seriously and take necessary steps.
Mahmudul Haque Masum, a student of the Arabic department, spoke at the time. He said that if the just demands of the students are not implemented quickly, the general students will be forced to organise a larger movement programme.
A large number of students from different departments of Carmichael College participated in the press conference and expressed solidarity with the demands.
The students said that if there is no visible progress on their demands within the next seven days, a strict movement program including human chains and protest rallies will be announced.
