Team IUB reaches 290 flood-hit families with relief

Students of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), under the banner Team IUB, have completed the first phase of a flood relief mission, distributing seven-day food packages to around 290 flood-affected families in Chattogram and Bandarban.

The student volunteers, representing more than 30 IUB clubs, left Dhaka on July 16 with support from donors and volunteers. The relief distribution was completed on July 21.

The operation covered Kanchana Union in Satkania upazila of Chattogram, Noapara Union in Rowangchhari upazila, and Muslim Para in Bandarban Sadar. Relief packages were distributed among 70 families in Kanchana, 65 in Noapara, 70 in Rowangchhari and 55 in Muslim Para.

In addition, volunteers provided emergency assistance to about 30 families they encountered while travelling through other flood-affected areas. Each package contained rice, pulses, edible oil, potatoes, dry food and essential medicines.

The relief programme was financed through a crowdfunding campaign supported by contributions from the IUB community, the university authorities, student volunteers and other well-wishers.

Team IUB also acknowledged the support of the university management and the Division of Student Activities (DoSA).

The latest initiative follows Team IUB’s humanitarian response during the 2024 floods in southeastern Bangladesh, when the student-led platform assisted more than 4,500 families across seven districts. Since then, the organisation has continued to coordinate volunteer-driven relief efforts during emergencies.
