Cashless ecosystem is the key to financial inclusion

Building a cashless ecosystem in Bangladesh is not merely about technological advancement; it refers a fundamental transformation toward greater financial inclusion, good governance, transparency, and broader economic participation through digital payments, Dr. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan, FCMA, Managing Director & CEO of NRBC Bank PLC, said at a conference recently.

He made these remarks while presenting a paper at the 12th International Sustainable Development Conference (SDC-2026), held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Participating as a distinguished speaker at the three-day conference from July 15 to 17, Dr. Khan presented his paper titled Smart Bangladesh in Action: Strengthening Financial Inclusion through a Cashless Ecosystem.

In his presentation, he highlighted the importance of developing a secure, efficient, and accessible digital payment ecosystem to accelerate Bangladesh’s journey toward becoming a smart, technology-driven and inclusive nation.

Dr. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan emphasized that developing a cashless ecosystem is among the most effective and practical approaches to achieving this national vision.

This involves decreasing cash dependency by advancing secure, efficient, and accessible digital payment solutions.

”In Bangladesh, the transition to digital payments goes beyond mere technology adoption” he explained.

The three-day conference brought together global stakeholders from academic, professional, and governmental sectors to discuss critical topics including sustainable development, green technologies, climate change, renewable energy, and public policies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Participants from Colombia, Italy, the UK, Thailand, Russia, Taiwan, Indonesia, USA, South Korea, Hong Kong, Fiji, Spain, Australia, India, and Japan presented research papers and shared insights.

Dr. Khan was also honored with selection as a member of the Scientific Committee of SDC-2026, recognizing his expertise and contribution to sustainable development discourse.
