Deputy Speaker vows no disappearances, crossfire

Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal on Friday called for collective efforts to build a new Bangladesh where enforced disappearances and crossfire incidents would have no place.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the residence of former Bhanga Gharua Union Parishad Chairman Alomgir Hossain in Faridpur.

Kayser Kamal said the country must be rebuilt in a way that ensures the establishment of the rule of law, protection of human rights and governance in line with the Constitution.

“We’ll all work together to build our country in such a way that the rule of law is established here, human rights are secured and Bangladesh is run in accordance with the Constitution,” he said.

Seeking cooperation from people, the Deputy Speaker said the new democracy established in Bangladesh was moving forward gradually and required patience and tolerance to become institutionalised.

“For giving it an institutional shape, the people need to exercise tolerance and patience,” he said.
He added that collective efforts were needed to create a country where people would feel that the rule of law had been established, human rights were protected and the state was being governed constitutionally.

During the visit, the Deputy Speaker was accompanied by lawmaker Shahidul Islam Babu (Faridpur-4 constituency) and other local BNP leaders.
