The government is ensuring justice through proper investigations conducted under due legal process and that the sacrifices of the martyrs of the July movement will never be in vain, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has said.
He made the remarks while participating in programmes organised by the Tangail district administration to mark July Martyrs’ Day 2026 on Thursday.
The state minister said the July Charter had been signed at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and that every commitment contained in the charter would be implemented in phases. He said legal proceedings over various incidents were already underway and would continue until completion.
“We will remain united in defending Bangladesh against fascism. We pay our deepest respect to all those who sacrificed their lives for democracy. We are committed to building a discrimination-free Bangladesh,” he said.
The State Minister said the present government had initiated judicial proceedings by ensuring impartial investigations into all incidents through due legal process after eliminating irregularities.
He stressed that the democracy for which the July martyrs had sacrificed their lives must never be undermined and called on everyone to remain united in the interest of the country to achieve that goal.
He also said the nation would forever remember with profound respect the sacrifices of those killed and the contributions of those injured during the July Movement.
The government, he added, stands beside the families of the martyrs and the injured and is taking the necessary measures for their welfare.
During the discussion, students who participated in the July Movement demanded adequate financial assistance for the families of those killed and injured, employment opportunities for their family members, the speedy submission of charge sheets in the murder cases, and effective government support for the affected families.
The meeting also paid tribute to all those who lost their lives during the July Movement, including Abu Sayed, Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdha and Mohsin Kabir, and called on the nation to uphold their ideals by working together to establish democracy, justice and the rule of law.
The state minister also instructed the Tangail district administration and police to strengthen efforts to build a drug-free Bangladesh. He stressed the importance of maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics in the district.
The programme was chaired by Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque and moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjoy Kumar Mahanta.
Among those present were Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, officials from various government and non-government organisations, members of the district police, family members of the July martyrs and the injured, freedom fighters, political leaders, teachers, journalists and representatives of civil society.
