




Khulna Agricultural University (KAU), the first institution of higher agricultural education and research in Bangladesh’s southwestern region, celebrated its 11th founding anniversary on Tuesday, marking its journey into the 12th year with a series of colourful programmes.
Established on July 14, 2015, the university has steadily emerged as a promising centre for agricultural education, research, and innovation, contributing to the country’s efforts to strengthen its agriculture-based economy.
The day-long celebrations began at 10:00am with the hoisting of the national flag and the university flag. This was followed by the inauguration of a voluntary blood donation campaign organised by Bandhan at 10:30am, an inter-faculty debate competition at 10:40am, and an inter-team English language proficiency competition at 11:00am.
An anniversary discussion was held at 12:00pm, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony at 12:30pm and a prize-giving ceremony at 1:00pm.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Nazmul Ahsan attended the programme as the chief guest. Among others present were Treasurer Prof Dr Shamim Ahmed Kamal Uddin Khan, Acting Registrar Md Rezaul Islam, along with faculty members, students, officers, and staff of the university.
Addressing the gathering, the vice-chancellor said Khulna Agricultural University has already established credibility in higher education and research despite being a relatively young institution. He noted that the university is gradually evolving into a comprehensive centre of learning by integrating diverse branches of knowledge and science.
He also expressed optimism that the university’s graduates would play a significant role in building a prosperous Bangladesh. Referring to existing challenges, he sought cooperation from all stakeholders in overcoming limitations, including issues related to land acquisition and campus expansion.
In his remarks, the treasurer said the university aspires to become a centre of excellence driven by innovation, humanity, creativity, and a strong sense of responsibility. He added that the creativity and ethical values of the younger generation would shape the Bangladesh of the future, and Khulna Agricultural University is committed to playing a leading role in that journey.
