During breakfast, a 90-year-old woman said to me, “Congratulations, congratulations”
Bangladesh have made history by securing its first-ever Test victory on Australian soil. They took the lead in the series (1-0) by defeating the hosts by nine wickets in Darwin.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who played a pivotal role in the team’s victory with both bat and ball, has also received tremendous acclaim.
His performance has drawn praise from everyone ranging from former Australian cricketers to commentators and analysts.
Naturally, Miraz is delighted to receive such praise. He says, “Everyone in the dressing room is really enjoying this and is very happy.
We received tremendous support from the stands. It feels great to win matches for Bangladesh. World-class cricketers are praising Bangladesh-that means a lot to me.”
Miraz said, “We want to stick to the mindset we’ve had so far. We won the first match, and since there are many challenges ahead, we intend to maintain this momentum and plan for the upcoming matches.”
Amidst countless words of praise, one name holds special significance for Miraz. Australian legend cricketer Adam Gilchrist interviewed him after he claimed a five-wicket haul-a moment that has left a lasting impression on Miraz.
Adam Gilchrist was delighted. He congratulated me repeatedly, saying, “All of you from Bangladesh played excellent cricket and took us completely by surprise. We never imagined you could play cricket like this.”
“It feels good when such a legendary cricketer speaks so highly of the team. There are others many players-as you are well aware, since we have played on the field. It feels good when they say things like that,” Miraz said.
Miraz was deeply touched by the affection he received from Australian spectators. He particularly remembers the moment an elderly Australian woman congratulated him following Bangladesh’s strong performance on the second day.
At the breakfast table, a 90-year-old woman came up to me and said, “Congratulations, congratulations.”
The way she said it really warmed my heart. They watch and support a lot of sports; they appreciate excellence, yet even when things go wrong, they offer support, believing that success will come next time. I really love that attitude.
