Elections of Film Artistes’ Assoc held at BFDC

The biennial election of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association for the 2026-28 term was held on Friday. The voting, which began at 9:00am, continued until 6:00pm.

However, there was a one-hour prayer and lunch break from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. A total of 573 voters are registered for this election.

The BFDC premises were bustling with the presence of film artistes for a month leading up to the elections. The busyness of the candidates, the influx of supporters, and the various campaigns created an election atmosphere throughout the area.

The main competition in this election was between two panels. One panel was led by Arman and Rumana Islam Mukti, while the other was led by Shiba Shanu and Joy Chowdhury.

Actress Nutan and villain Ilyas Kobra were contesting for the vice-president post in the Arman-Mukti Parishad.

Rina Khan was contesting for the post of deputy general secretary, Chunnu for the post of organising secretary, M A Parvez Chowdhury Abir for the post of international affairs secretary, Russell Mia for the post of office and publicity secretary, Maruf Aqib for the post of culture and sports secretary and villain actor Kamruzzaman Kamal for the post of treasurer.

The candidates for the executive members of this panel are – Manas Banerjee, Dulari, Raka, Sharmin Akhter, Latif (Cheetah), Nasreen, Sushant, Shaheen Comedy, Badal Sheikh, Armaan Khan and Shamim Khan (Chikon Ali).

From the Shiba Shanu-Joy Chowdhury Parishad, DA Tayeb and Rozina have been nominated for the posts of Vice-President; Subrata for the posts of Deputy General Secretary, Soni Rahman for the posts of Organising Secretary, Riana Parvin Poli for the posts of International Affairs Secretary, Mushfiqur Rahman Kakon for the posts of Sports and Cultural Secretary, Jackie Alamgir for the posts of Office and Publicity Secretary and Jadu Azad for the posts of Treasurer. The candidates for the executive council members of this panel were – Aliraj, Farhad, Shipon Mitra, Firoz Shahi, Yamin Haque Bobby, Hasan Jahangir, Shirin Shila, Falguni Rahman Jolly, Kayesh Arju and Kabila.

Producer Khorshed Alam Khosru was serving as the Chief Election Commissioner in the election. Kamal Md Kibria Lipu and B H Nisha were also associated with him in Election Commission.

On the other hand, renowned film personalities Chhatku Ahmed, Kazi Hayat and Badal Khandaker were in charge of the Appeal Board to resolve any post-election complications. Flawless and strict security measures were taken across the BFDC in view of the elections. Along with the police force, members of RAB and various intelligence agencies are active on the BFDC premises to avoid any untoward situation.
