Govt runs 10 projects to tackle unemployment

The government is currently implementing 10 projects and has taken initiatives to launch six additional schemes aimed at promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship among unemployed youths across the country, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque told Parliament on Tuesday.

Replying to a scripted question from ruling party lawmaker Mostafizur Rahman Babul (Jamalpur-3), the state minister said the Department of Youth Development (DYD) is carrying out multiple programmes to develop skilled human resources and create employment opportunities for young people.

He said the ongoing 10 projects include initiatives focused on technology empowerment, skills development, freelancing training, ICT capacity building, and poverty alleviation through innovative programmes across districts.

Among them are projects such as the Technology Empowerment Centre on Wheels for rural people, Integrated Resource Management for poverty alleviation, life skills development at youth training centres, and programmes aimed at enhancing economic resilience for NEET youths.

Other initiatives include ICT training in all 64 districts, AI-based skills development, freelancing training for job-seeking youths, and projects to strengthen the central human resource development system.

The state minister also informed Parliament that the department has identified six priority projects that can be implemented quickly to produce visible impact on youth employment and self-employment.

These include upazila-level training expansion, vehicle driving training programmes, caregiver development for supporting persons with disabilities, freelancing training in metropolitan cities, and mobile servicing and language training initiatives aimed at improving domestic and overseas job opportunities.

He said the government’s focus is on transforming unemployed youths into skilled manpower to meet both local and international labour market demands.
