2 killed in bus-motorcycle collision in Sreemangal

Two youths were killed in a head-on collision between a Hanif Paribahan passenger bus and a motorcycle in Sreemangal on Sunday.

Another person, Sabbir (25), was critically injured in the incident.The tragic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon on the Dhaka-Moulvibazar regional highway in front of the Satgaon Cha Kannya (Tea Girl) sculpture in the upazila.

Sourav (17), son of Ramzan Miah, and Naim (17), son of Tajul Islam, both residents of the Tegharia area of Habiganj Sadar Upazila. The injured person, Sabbir (25), is the son of Shahid Ali from the same area.

According to highway police and eyewitnesses, the three youths were traveling toward Sreemangal on a motorcycle on Sunday afternoon when it collided head-on with a Hanif Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction.

All three sustained critical injuries in the crash.

Local residents rescued the victims and took them to the Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctors declared Sourav and Naim dead.

Mamun Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of the Sreemangal Satgaon Highway Police Station, said, “Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and conducted rescue operations.

The driver of the bus involved in the accident fled the scene, making it impossible to detain him. However, the bus has been seized and taken to the police station.

The motorcycle is also in police custody. Necessary legal action will be taken regarding this incident.”
