2 housewives found dead in capital

Police recovered the bodies of two housewives, including the wife of a police officer, from separate locations in the capital.

The bodies were recovered from residences in Dakshinagaon under Sabujbagh Police Station on Sunday morning and Basherpul in Demra late Saturday night. Both were sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The deceased were identified as Nilufar Yasmin, 29, daughter of Nur Islam of Birichil village in Rowmari upazila of Kurigram, and Nasrin Akter, 26, daughter of Iqbal Hossain of Rajapur Paschimpara village in Burichang upazila of Cumilla.

Nilufar’s husband, Anwar Hossain, is a sub-inspector with the Gazipur Metropolitan Police, while Nasrin’s husband, Md Palash, works as a private car driver.

Sub-Inspector Fatema of Sabujbagh Police Station said Nilufar had been married to Anwar for 14 years. The couple have two children – a 10-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter. She had been living with her children in a third-floor flat opposite Shahibagh Mosque in Dakshinagaon. Her son studies at a residential madrasa.

According to police, conversations with Nilufar’s relatives suggested that she had been under mental distress due to financial hardship and family-related problems. Family members also told police that her son had not been attending the madrasa regularly.

Police said they received information early Sunday and recovered her body from the residence. An inquest was conducted before the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

In another incident, Sub-Inspector Shaikh Khosru of Demra Police Station said police recovered the body of Nasrin Akter from a residence in Nutan Para, Basherpul, around 3:00am on Saturday night.

Nasrin had been living there with her husband, police said. After being informed by locals, police went to the scene, prepared an inquest report and sent the body to the DMCH morgue for autopsy.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the death to determine whether it was suicide or homicide. Nasrin’s husband, Md Palash, was taken to Demra Police Station for questioning as part of the investigation.
